Subject: Reminder: Call for Abstracts for the Annual Conference, 19 May From: "UniServe Science" Date: Tue, May 2, 2006 1:51 pm To: Maths & Stats academics:; Priority: Normal Options: View Full Header | View Printable Version Dear Mathematics and Statistics Colleagues UniServe Science Annual Conference The UniServe Science Annual Conference will be held in the AVCC Week in September (27th - 29th). The Keynote Speaker for the Symposium will be Prof David Treagust from Curtin University of Technology. Please note the Symposium will be held on Thursday 28 September. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The theme of this year's Symposium is Assessment - a topic absolutely central to the business of teaching and learning, yet one which we have not yet devoted a whole symposium to. Among the questions that might be discussed are, * Does assessment drive learning? * Does it matter if assessment drives learning? * What does recent research contribute to assessment as practised in the classroom? We invite the submission of abstracts for papers which address these questions, or related questions of interest to attendees. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We are asking academics who are interested in presenting a paper or poster at the symposium to provide an abstract by Friday 18 May 2006. The abstract should be no more than 300 words in length but reflect evidence of research into science teaching and learning. Please indicate your preference for paper or poster. The abstract should be submitted to uniserveedit06@usyd.edu.au. Papers which align with the theme of the symposium will be favoured, but papers on wider topics will also be accepted. An aim is also to reflect the diversity of disciplines and universities being showcased at the symposium. Selection for full papers to be presented orally will be based on evidence of research into science teaching and learning with research methodology and results. Presenters will be contacted by the end of May to allow time for the completion of the paper for reviewing and publication. Authors who contribute an abstract that is accepted as a full paper will be requested to submit the full paper for peer review to meet the DEST Category E1 guidelines, and then for publication in a Proceedings to be ready at the start of the Symposium. Authors who are selected to submit a poster, will be given the opportunity, if they so choose, to contribute a short paper which will be peer reviewed, provided it also meets the DEST Category E1 requirements. For more information on submitting your expression of interest (and abstract) to present either a poster of paper at this year's conference please visit: http://science.uniserve.edu.au/workshop/conference.html Regards Kaye
