Undergraduate Teaching

• On-going.
  • I have continuing interests in Computer Aided Assessment (CAA), not just with my own code and own units, but also in helping other lecturers of large-enrolment units with some aspects of CAA. See my CAA links.
  • I have ongoing interests, and occasional maintenance duties (just for my questions' code), associated with
    • calmaeth (for MATH2040 and for MATH2200)
    • moodle
• First semester 2010? (My 2010S1, 2009S1 timetable)
  • Hons teaching: In 2009S1 it was 4A5 Honours "Mathematical Methods", and perhaps it or something similar might be available to me in 2010.
  • Third year
    • MATH3322 3A2 Numerical Computing
  • Second year
    • In 2010, as in 2008 and 2009, I will share the teaching of MATH2200, Applied Mathematics with a Physics lecturer. In 2010 this will be Paul Abbott (as it was in 08) (It was Simon Tyler in 09.)
    • MATH2040.
      • I provided my Linear Systems materials to the lecturer who has taken over from me.
      • If I have any time I would like to continue migrating my MATH2040 AiM questions into CalMaeth, augmenting my earlier CalMaeth questions there.
  • First year
    • In 2009, I gave the introductions to mathxl in some MCL labs in MATH1010/MATH1020.
    • In 2009, I gave some tutes in STAT1520. Materials for STAT1520 are up in webCT
• Second semester 2010? (My 2009S2 timetable)
  • I expect to share, as in 2009, the teaching of ENVE3605 Math Applications in Environmental Engineering, probably with Nicole Jones from Environmental Systems Engineering.
  • I am prepared to help the lecturers involved
    • with Mathematica items, in MATH3342, 3M2 Complex Variable.
  • I expect to have some tutes in STAT1520. Materials for STAT1520 are up in webCT

Honours teaching

My interests in Hons teaching often include the following:

• I often do a bit of lecturing, usually just part of one or other of 4A5 "Methods" in Semester 1, or 4A4 "Fluids" in Semester 2.
• Concerning Hons Projects I might be prepared to supervise, see the list of Hons Project titles offered by me.
• I'm the academic coordinator at UWA Maths for the national offerings via Access Grid Rooms (though, so far, this has just meant lots of publicity from me but no actual uptake on their use here at UWA).

Research interests

More details on this topic, with some admin. matters is here. A summary of some of the main headings for my research interests follows.

• Differential equations, esp. applications of semilinear elliptic second-order pde in fluid mechanics and engineering applications;
  
• Convex optimization problems, esp. involving order properties, such as minimizing convex V with property
  V(max(x,y)) + V(min(x,y)) <= V(x) + V(y) ;
  
• Mathematical software of use to engineers, Matlab; Maple and Mathematica, etc.; symbolic-numeric interface matters.
