Early summer weather, 28°C, light shore breeze, 2 m swell.

Trip organised by Dive Ski and Surf in their new boat Splash. Left from Lancelin jetty at 8 am.

The happy band of 12 divers included six who were doing their Advanced course deep and wreck dives. Some had not been below 18 metres before. Although the conditions were not too bad, a lot of people were seasick, starting with Chad the instructor on the way out.

A 1-2 knot current was running at the site. Pretty good visibility 10-15 metres.

We went down the cylindrical shaft... dropping fairly quickly down to 40 metres and cruised out along one of the legs (still holding its triangular prism shape).

leg struts
There was a lot of debris: twisted metal, grilles, rope. There were cray pots ready for 15 november.

Skylights

By this time we had overstayed our welcome at 40 m, but some of those photographs were looking soooooo funny.

Ascended through a magnificent archway crowded with fish.

Up on the triangular base of the rig there were stacks of crays, a group of batfish weaving in and out, lots of busy little gobies. Sponges everywhere. Yellow-tailed kingfish.

Ascended reluctantly.

The deco bottle needs a BC ?

Meanwhile, back at the surface

When we surfaced we were told they had cancelled the second dive. Huh ?! I thought the conditions were OK.
We were packed up unceremoniously and got under way fast. It looked as though the skipper had been seasick and some of the divers had been begging for dry land. Bugger!
